There is hardly anything more idyllic than a party outside. We set up the party in the yard with lights in the trees and a back up tent or capacity indoors in case of rain. Choose from finger food, barbecue, raclette or casserole and let the sunset, the silence and the starry sky set the scene for the good conversation. And if you want to invite your guests to dance with a DJ or band, of course you are allowed to! The chickens do not go to sleep until midnight anyway, and the sheep sleep through almost anything.

It is no coincidence that Raclette is one of our chosen dishes here at Øvre Kjekshus. The cheese factory at Thorbjørnrud “accidentally” made a rind cheese, Red Cow, which was voted one of the world's best cheeses - and it tastes perhaps best in its melted state. The funny thing is that as we now breathe life into this classic dish from Switzerland, which swept through the thousands of homes here in Norway in the nineties, we see that when people just dare to admit it, melted cheese is awesome!

Entering the farmhouse at Øvre Kjekshus is like travelling in time. Olav has done a great job with the restoration; not only did he envisage it be dry and warm, but he also restored an atmosphere worthy of the old house. The farmhouse is a great place to have dinner all year round, but it is extra memorable to have Christmas food in these surroundings.
